Celebrating the Works of Ella Fitzgerald, Fanny Mendelssohn, and Mother Ann

For our 2023-2024 season, Artistic Director Frederick Binkholder has programmed three concerts that shine long overdue spotlights on the works of three remarkable women: The holiday music charts of Ella Fitzgerald, the compositions of Fanny Hensel (neé Mendelssohn), and the divinely received Shaker melodies of Mother Ann.

Season tickets are on sale now!

December 2023: Ella

We'll have a Swingin' Christmas when our friend David Jellema and his band join us, along with vocalist Sarah Ulloa, to sing holiday favorites based on the charts of the incomparable Ella Fitzgerald, “First Lady of Song,” and her Ella wishes you a swinging Christmas album from 1960. Tickets are on sale now!

March 2024: Fanny

We bring the music of Fanny Hensel out from the shadow of her brother Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy. No Ornament, She busts the myth that Fanny's musical talent could be "only an ornament," according to her own father, and not the vocation it was for her famous sibling.

June 2024: Mother Ann

We welcome back Composer-in-residence Kevin Siegfried to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Shaker community's arrival in the colonies with a concert focused on the music revealed by their beloved Mother Ann.

The Chorale is deep in rehearsals for Ella's Swingin' Christmas and we can't wait to see you in the audience!
